Blues Legend SRV died after injuries suffered in a helicopter crash in 1990. He had just performed with Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, Robert Cray, and his brother Jimmie. His memory and music still lives on though the hearts and souls of many.
Stevie Ray is among the artists that I wish I had a chance to see in person. His live performance on Austin City Limits is one of my favorites. Stevie Ray lived hard and played hard. His passion bled though his strings to communicated his powerful bluesy sound. His performance at Austin City Limits
still resonates with me as one of the best. I remember a tv show that featured Stevie and his music and they had interviewed some guy about his thoughts of Stevie’s muisic. In short, this guy said he had no particular interest in music, including guitar riff/melodies, yet when he heard SRV play it had moved him to the point tears. When I saw this I though … wow, that’s something special and says a lot about the passion SRV put into his playing. Some of my favorite tunes:
- Texas Flood
- Pride and Joy
- Cold Shot
- Rude Mood
- Life Without You
- Tic Tock People
- Scuttle Buttin’
- Life by the Drop
His likeness has been memorialized in statue unveiled in Austin, Texas. He stands on the shore of Town Lake, near Riverside Drive & South First Street (Auditorium Shores).
Check out SRV ripping some “Rude Mood” and “Hideaway”:
