Don Felder Talks “Hotel California” and 1959 Les Paul

If you’ve wondered “What Happened to Don Felder?” He’s been busy. For the epic “Hotel California”, Don Felder said used a 1959 Gibson Les Paul Standard for every electric guitar part and he recently did and interview with Gibson to talk about how and when he got it, how he came up with the idea for the song and the solo, and an old elastic capo.

I saw the Eagles live during their first “Hell Freezes Over” tour. I’ve always been a fan of Don Felder. To me, his phrasing is unmatched. He brought his share to the unique sound of the Eagles that I haven’t heard since he was fired from the band in 2001 in a dispute over money.

Well since then things have been resolved and Don has been active writing the best selling book – Heaven and Hell: My Life in the Eagles (1974-2001) (a must read because it’s written by someone on the inside of all that happened … very interesting stories), still making music, and involved in charty work such as Autism Speaks.
