Private Guitar Lessons with Guitarist Nation

I’ve recently launched a private guitar lesson program and welcome everyone interested to learn more by filling out the guitar questionnaire. I’ve got some excellent instructors lined up and ready for you.

My #1 goal is to help you improve as a guitarist and learn to play what you want … NOT general music theory or what instructor thinks you should learn. You’ll learn how music works and how to apply it the guitar, in the style of music you’d like to play.

Here’s how it works …

  1. Fill out the questionnaire so we can find out exactly what you what to learn, how you want to learn (skype, video, email, phone, or a combination), and get an idea of what you already know.
  2. After we review your questionnaire, we’ll match you with an instructor that can get you to where you want to go on the guitar.
  3. Start your lessons. It’s as easy as that, no long-term commitment, take lessons as you progress.

So, if you’re looking for lessons start here, if you want to know more about becoming an instructor, contact me.

Happy Trails,
Todd

Learn Eric Johnson’s “Cliffs of Dover” with iPad App

On The Music Path just released version 1.2 of it’s lesson app featuring Eric Johnson. In it, he teaches the art of the electric guitar with “Cliffs of Dover”. The lesson includes full notation and tab, and EJ breaks down the song, as you can see in the video above, playing the song at half-tempo and full-tempo, with a split-screen shot of his left and right hands.

“Moving Forward” with Morrow’s Memory

Morrow’s Memory recently released their album “Moving Forward“, a solid entry into the hard rock genre. They’re a 6-man band from Metro-Detroit deriving the name “Morrow’s Memory” from the concept that everything in life becomes a memory of tomorrow.

The Sound

Punch in the face combination of vocals, heavy guitar, and head banging rhythm. While they’ve defined their own sound, I would draw parallels with a mix of bands such as Nickelback and Staind.

Lyrics & Vocals

Good balance of vocals with the music. Not too heavy one way or the other. To me, the lyrics speak to real life and are not full of overly complex similies and metaphors. The lighter songs “The Road” and “Behind Your Beauty” showcase this strong mix of lyrics and vocals.

Overall Rating

My favorite track is “Hero in the Dark”. The short guitar riffs are killer. I really like this album … I give it 4 out of 5 guitars.

CD Track List:

    1. Eternal Rest
    2. Abandoned
    3. Taken
    4. Evolve
    5. Let You Down
    6. The Road
    7. Behind Your Beauty
    8. Fall In Line
    9. Hero In the Dark
    10. Moving Forward

The Folsom Prison Gang Band – Staying True to the Music of Johhny Cash

Focusing the the music and keeping it alive an entertaining is what The Folsom Prison Gang Band is all about. This year, the band released an album titled “Cash Only” that is a collection of 10 of their favorite Johnny Cash songs that they cover in their own unique style … (I highly recommend it – get it here). They are a tribute to the styles and sounds produced early in Johnny Cash’s career. They perform live at festivals, fairs, theaters and other specialty type venues in their home state of North Carolina as well as neighboring states.

I recently interviewed the band’s guitarist and manager – Ryan …

1. How did the band form in 2007? Did you know each other previously or a mutual interest JC’s music bring you together?
The band started from an interest in doing something completely different. I really liked Johnny Cash and figured…Why not? Let’s do this and see where it goes. The current members were not all original members, it took awhile to find the right people, but eventually I found people with the right attitude and a mutual love of Johnny Cashs’ music.

2. In 2011 you released “Cash Only”, a collection of Johnny Cash favorites, how did you guys agree on the songs and can you take me through your recording process?
